As part of Rutgers University–Newark’s Flow Fest: Menstrual Health & Awareness Initiative hosted by the RU-N Pantry, Menstrual Equity in Action brought together students, advocates, and community partners for an engaging dialogue on menstrual equity and justice. In partnership with the Flow Initiative, Rutgers Law School, and ViSE Lab, the event explored current legislation and policy issues surrounding menstrual equity while providing menstrual care items in a dignified and welcoming space. Attendees also experienced a photo exhibit from the Red Lines Study, highlighting students’ lived experiences as menstruating students on campus.
Seeing Wellness as Political Refuse

Curated by Dr. Laura Krystal Porterfield, the event included a pop-up exhibit of The Seeing Wellness Project and a thought-provoking dialogue with writer and poet Cole Arthur Riley. We appreciated the space to reflect together on wellness and its role in movements for justice, diversity, and collective transformation.
Sankofa: The Storied Experiences of Teachers of Color through Photovoice Exhibit

This exhibit was held in partnership with Sankofa Café in Montclair, New Jersey. Bringing together educators and community members, the exhibit sought to foster conversation about the current state of education in Montclair and across the United States. Amid the Montclair School District’s announcement of a significant budget deficit, this exhibit served as a gathering space to reflect, connect, and reimagine the path forward in education.
ViSE Lab Launch: Arts-Based Research Event

This exhibit was in partnership with CUNY's The Graduate Center and The 7 Space. The artist-based research exhibit and event highlighted local New York City teachers' and their arts-based research featured in the book, Arts-Based Research and the Practice of Freedom in Education: Reflections from a Doctoral Course, edited by Gene Fellner. This was an unforgettable showcase of community arts-based researchers, multiple art immersion experiences, and a photovoice exhibit.
Truth Tellers: Educators of Color Photovoice Exhibit

In partnership with Montclair State University, this exhibit brought together two affinity group cohorts of educators of Color and their photovoice work around "What it means to be an educator of Color in today's schools?" The teachers came from New Jersey, New York, and Ohio, and the community event dove deep into the heart of being a teacher of Color in various contexts.

The official first launch the Truth Tellers exhibit that was co-launched with the relaunch of the Department of Urban Education at Rutgers University-Newark. The event brought together community activists, local politicians, local artists, and community members exploring the arts-based storied experience of teachers of Color in today's schools.
