Creativity is what makes us human.

We think differently about research.

The arts can and do play a significant role in research and our lab aims to do the good work.

The Visual Studies in Education Lab (ViSE) at Rutgers University-Newark is a research lab and consortium focused on visual and arts-based research, particularly in urban education.

It's led by Dr. Lynnette Mawhinney and aims to amplify community voices, challenge traditional research methods, and foster creativity in education.

Focus

ViSE, while affiliated with the larger Rutgers research environment, has a specific focus on visual and arts-based research in urban education, particularly related to teachers of color and their experiences.

Purpose

The lab aims to challenge traditional research methods, amplify community voices, and foster creativity through visual and arts-based approaches.
